Moss Vale boasts several heritage buildings, including and The Old Post Office and Telegraph Office in Argyle Street and Throsby Park along the Illawarra Highway. Also located in Argyle Street in the centre of town is Leighton Gardens, resplendent during spring bloom, and just as lovely in autumn as the deciduous trees change colour. The town showcases a wide variety of retailers and commercial services, as well as two picture perfect golf courses.

Rural holdings in the area specialise in dairy herds and there are also a number of beef studs and sheep properties. By Australian standards the area has good soil and reliable rainfall, and as a result the lush pasture adjacent to the town is reminiscent of English countryside.
